Abel Natural Perfumes
One of the most wonderful things about being human is seeking and finding pleasure. However too often, this pleasure comes at the expense of someone, or something.
Enter Frances Shoemack, an Amsterdam based former winemaker, on a mission to blend the pleasurable world of perfumery with the conscious simplicity of nature. To create the very best natural perfumes in the world, Frances needed the right ally. In 2012, she joined forces with Sao Paulo based master perfumer Isaac Sinclair and Abel was born. Six years on and with a growing team and fan base, they bring the world’s cities a selection of natural unisex perfumes that are modern and long lasting.
Each fragrance is composed of a highly concentrated mixture of natural (certified organic where possible) oils and isolates. The addition of natural isolates to Abel’s formula means access to ingredients previously unavailable in a natural perfumers’ palette. For example, musk which is traditionally sourced from the male musk deer. Abel uses a musk naturally derived from the ambrette seed.
“Synthetic musk is widely used for its role as a fixative and ability to enhance the overall fragrance, even though it’s also widely recognized as a toxin to humans and the environment” says Shoemack.
Abel Nose Sinclair chimes in; “But, unfortunately, creating perfume without musk is like cooking without butter… so natural [vegan] musk is a game-changer for us”.
